Don’t forget to delegate. If your team members have clear goals and a lot of autonomy, they’re likely to be focused on achieving them, not waiting around for instructions from you. That doesn’t mean you can’t give any!

  • Examine your workload. What could you realistically delegate? Look for self-contained tasks that won’t require a lot of your time to progress.
  • Examine your team’s workload. Don’t move the pressure from you to them. Make sure they have capacity to take on something new.
  • Ask for volunteers. If you’re not certain who has capacity, but you’d trust anyone to take on the task, open it up to the team. You’re creating a good opportunity for someone to step up, and relieving some of your burden in the process.
